Vigil and First Eucharist of Easter

Vigil and First Eucharist of Easter

Date Time Location Price

Join us as we livestream our Vigil and First Eucharist of Easter as part of our celebrations for Holy Week and Easter.

The service, which begins in darkness, is marked with the lighting of the Easter Candle, symbolising Jesus passing from death to life. The resurrection light is then shared among those present.

This is followed by a short vigil of readings, interspersed with psalms and canticles, and renewal of baptismal vows by the sprinkling of water.

The service will be sung by the Choir of Westminster Abbey, conducted by James O’Donnell, Organist and Master of the Choristers.

Among those giving readings at the service will be actor Sir David Suchet. Sir David has also made a special recording of St John's Gospel for a film which will premiere on the Abbey's YouTube channel at 4:00pm (BST) on Easter Day.

Worshippers can watch the service online as it is streamed live or catch up afterwards on the Abbey website. Please note that tickets are not available to attend this service in person.

You are surrounded by history at the Abbey, not like a museum where it’s just displayed, but here you are standing where history has happened.
