Westminster Abbey and Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The Abbey will re-open for sightseeing visitors from Friday 21st May.

In the meantime, we remain open for worship and you are welcome to join us at our daily services. We are also open for individual prayer from 10:30am - 12:30pm, Monday to Saturday.

Organ Scholar

As Organ Scholar at Westminster Abbey, Charles Maxtone-Smith shares the playing for services in the Abbey with the Sub-Organist and Assistant Organist, and assists in the training of the choristers. Alongside this, he is working for an MA in Organ Performance at the Royal Academy of Music, where he studies with David Titterington.

After a gap-year Organ Scholarship at Hereford Cathedral, during which he gained his FRCO, he was Organ Scholar at New College, Oxford from 2016-19 where he read music, and then became Acting Assistant Organist for a further year. He toured the USA with New College Choir, and was the organ continuo player for the Oxford Bach Soloists.

Since 2014 he has been one of the Festival Organists at the annual Edington Festival of Music within the Liturgy, and has played for several BBC Radio 3 broadcasts.
