A Service of Thanksgiving to celebrate the Life and Work of Sir George Moseley KCB

A service to celebrate the life and work of Sir George Moseley was held in St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey on Monday 30th April at 12.00 noon.

Sir George, who died on 2nd October 2011 aged 86, was permanent secretary at the Department of the Environment and was private secretary to secretary of state Richard Crossman.

Born on 7th February 1925 in Leeds, Sir George served with the RAF in his early career before joining the Civil Service in 1950. He became permanent secretary at the Department of the Environment in 1981.

Sir George retired in 1985 and chaired the British Cement Association and the Civic trust. He served on the Advisory Council on Public Records, the Ancient Monuments Advisory Committee and the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England.

He was appointed CB in 1978 and KCB in 1982.
