A service to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Royal British Legion

20 September 2011 at 11:00 am

This service celebrated the remarkable work of the Royal British Legion which provides welfare to the armed forces; helping serving and ex-Service personnel and their families. The RBL helps not just those who fought in the two World Wars, but also those involved in the many conflicts since 1945 and those still fighting today.

The organisation also campaigns on a range of issues affecting Service people, they are the custodian of Remembrance, run the annual Poppy Appeal and are one of the UK's largest membership organisations.

Westminster Abbey works with the RBL on the Field of Remembrance, a carpet of scarlet poppies on crosses, which is opened by the Duke of Edinburgh during Remembrance. The Field has been laid out every November since 1928 on Westminster Abbey’s North Green.
