A Service of Thanksgiving to Mark the 410th Anniversary of the Granting of the Emanuel School Charter

21 November 2011 at 2:30 pm

A service of thanksgiving for Emanuel School; celebrating its history and community.

Emanuel School is a co-educational, independent school founded in 1594. At the time Lady Dacre wrote that one of the main aims of the Foundation was ‘for the bringing up of children in virtue and good and laudable arts so that they might better live in time to come by their honest labour’.

Queen Elizabeth I granted the school charter in 1601. Elizabeth I is buried in Westminster Abbey and, during the service, a plaque will be carried up and placed on the altar to commemorate this important event in the School's history.

Today, Emanuel School is also committed to promoting independent thought and a life long curiosity for learning; the pursuit of academic excellence; providing a broad based education; enabling all students to discover their strengths; providing support and pastoral care; and engendering respect, tolerance and understanding.

The charitable object of the Foundation is the provision of education with a Christian ethos.
