A Service of Thanksgiving for the life and work of Baroness Park of Monmouth, CMG, OBE, was held in St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey at Noon on Tuesday 26 October 2010.
Baroness Park of Monmouth, who died in March aged 89, was both a Diplomat and a distinguished member of the Intelligence Service. Respected widely both in the UK and abroad for her specialist expertise, she also served on many Boards and Foundations, including as a Governor of the BBC, Chairman of the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, and Chairman of the Lord Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Legal Aid. On her retirement from both the Diplomatic Service and her Intelligence Service, she was appointed Principal of an Oxford College, and served also as Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Oxford. On her retirement from her positions at Oxford, she was raised to the Peerage and served as an active and highly effective member of the House of Lords for a further 20 years, with a particular interest in defence and security. In addition, Daphne Park was also a Member, President or Patron of numerous charities and organisations during her long and varied career.
