Worship at the Abbey

The Judges’ Service

01 October 2009 at 11:30 am

The start of the UK legal year was formally marked with a special service in Westminster Abbey on 1 October attended by the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, the Lord Chief Justice, judges and other members of the legal profession. Judges arrived at the Abbey from the Royal Courts of Justice for the service, which was followed by a reception at the Houses of Parliament, hosted by the Lord Chancellor.

This service was noteworthy for the procession of the judges in their robes through the Abbey. This year was the first day for the new Justices of the Supreme Court (www.justice.gov.uk/about/supremecourt.htm) who were sworn in at the Supreme Court, Parliament Square before the service.
