A Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of Lord Dahrendorf of Clare Market KBE FBA was held at St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey, at 12 noon on Tuesday 3 November 2009.
Lord Dahrendorf, who died in June aged 80, was a liberal sociologist whose reputation, mindset and loyalties transcended national boundaries.
An authority on class divisions in modern society who served as a European Commissioner, he was director of the London School of Economics from 1974 to 1984, and had the rare distinction of belonging to both the German and British parliaments.
