The Lord Mayor of Westminster, Councillor Louise Hyams and councillors of the City of Westminster attended the Abbey for the annual civic service on Sunday 6th July 2008.
The service was taken by the Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall.
Lessons were read by the Lord Mayor (Ecclesiastes 3: 1-11) and by Councillor Colin Barrows, leader of Westminster City Council (Romans 12: 1-18).
The Address was given by Rabbi Mark Winer, Chaplain to the Lord Mayor of Westminster.
Prayers were led by the Reverend Deiniol Morgan, Minor Canon.
The service was sung by the Choir of Westminster Abbey, conducted by James O’Donnell, Organist and Master of Choristers. The organ was played by Assistant Organist James McVinnie and before the service by Organ Scholar Benjamin Chewter.
A guard of honour was formed outside the Great West Door by F Company (the Royal Green Jackets) the London Regiment.
