At the heart of life at Westminster Abbey is daily prayer and worship. On Saturday 19 January the Abbey is set aside for a whole day of prayer and reflection, to which all are welcome to attend from 10.00am-3pm, concluding with Evensong at 3.00pm. Tickets are not required. The Abbey will be closed to visitors on this day.

Westminster Abbey will mark the centenary of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity with an ecumenical service next Friday at 5pm. The service will be attended by leading figures from all denominations.

Under the title Pray without ceasing, the service aims to reflect the breadth of Christianity in the United Kingdom today, and the hope is that sister and brother Christians from many traditions and language communities will attend.

The service will be led by the Dean, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall who said: ’I hope that this important service will give a boost to the national observance of a Week of Prayer and encourage us with the prospect of ecumenical reconciliation’. Prominent at the service will be the Presidents of Churches Together in England: the Archbishops of Canterbury and Westminster, Bishop Nathan Hovhannisian, Primate of the Armenian Church of Great Britain and Commissioner Betty Matear of the Salvation Army.

The London Community Gospel Choir and the St Yeghiche Armenian Choir will be taking part, as well as the Abbey’s Special Service Choir.
