Shakespeare’s Kings & Westminster Abbey: Edward III

13 April 2010 at 7:00 pm

THIS EVENT IS NOW SOLD OUT.

Members of the RSC Histories Ensemble will perform at Westminster Abbey this Spring when the Abbey joins forces with the Royal Shakespeare Company for a unique collaboration inspired by Shakespeare’s History Plays. Shakespeare’s Kings and Westminster Abbey will tell the story of six kings of England, all linked with Westminster Abbey as they battled for crown and kingdom in the turbulent times of medieval England.

Actors from the award-winning RSC Histories Ensemble will perform excerpts from the History Plays. Music from the period will be sung by Lay Vicars of The Westminster Abbey Choir. Nicholas Sagovsky, Canon Theologian of Westminster Abbey will explain the historic context of the Plays.

Audiences will be seated in the historic setting of the coronation ‘theatre’- the place in Westminster Abbey where kings and queens of England have been crowned since 1066 and just metres away from the tombs of four kings: Edward III, Richard II, Henry V and Henry VII who will be featured in these special evenings of performance, music and interpretation.
