Christchurch Earthquake Memorial Service

His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales attended a memorial service at Westminster Abbey for victims of the Christchurch earthquake.

The service, which was organised with the New Zealand High Commission, New Zealand government agencies, and community groups in London, provided an opportunity to reflect on the loss of life suffered as a result of the earthquake on 22 February 2011 and the huge impact it has had on New Zealand’s second largest city, its people, and those from around the world affected by the tragedy.

It was also an opportunity to acknowledge the generosity, sympathy, and support New Zealand has received from the United Kingdom since the earthquake struck.

The people of Japan, who suffered their own earthquake and tsunami on 11 March 2011, were remembered in the service.

The service was audio broadcast into St Margaret’s Church, which stands within the grounds of Westminster Abbey.
