Annual Day of Prayer: Poetry, Painting and Prayer

A day of reflection led by the Right Reverend Dr Christopher Herbert, former Bishop of St Albans.
Christopher Herbert was born in the Forest of Dean; educated at Monmouth School, University of Wales, Lampeter and the University of Bristol. He trained for ordination at Wells Theological College, following which he has held posts in the Dioceses of Hereford and Guildford. He was appointed Bishop of St Albans in 1995 and retired in 2009.
He was a member of the House of Lords between 1999 and 2009 and established himself as a speaker in the areas of health and medical ethics.
In 2000, he undertook a three month sabbatical to research the image of the Resurrection in 15th Century European Art. Building upon that research, he was awarded an MPhil by the University of Leicester. He extended his research to medieval English Easter Sepulchres, for which he was awarded a PhD.
Christopher Herbert is an authority in the field of medieval Christian art, and is in demand as a lecturer, in particular on the image of the Resurrection, the art of 15th Century Northern Europe and the Italian renaissance amongst. He has given lectures in the National Gallery, Westminster Abbey, the Courtauld Institute, the University of Leicester, King’s College, London, the Salisbury International Arts Festival and in churches and cathedrals across Britain. He became an NADFAS lecturer in 2009.
He holds an honorary DLitt from the University of Hertfordshire and an honorary Doctorate of Arts from the University of Bedfordshire, and is also an Honorary Citizen of Fano in Italy.
He has also been a Non-exec Director and Trustee of the Abbeyfield Society since 2009.
