                        The Spacious Firmament 2; Yet we who neither burn nor shine

JAM celebrates Jonathan Dove’s 50th birthday with the only London performance of The Far Theatricals of Day in 2009. The piece commissioned by JAM in 2003, consists of settings for soloists, choir, brass quintet and organ of verses by Emily Dickinson, whose poems were nearly all published only after her death. The title is also a line from an Emily Dickinson poem and encapsulates the work's representation of the unfolding of a day. The piece was a finalist in the 2003 Radio 3 British Composer Awards. Since then the work has been performed all over the world.
