Westminster Abbey
Filming & photography

Because the Abbey is a living church in an historic building there are very strict guidelines on commercial filming and photography. Due to the number of filming requests we receive we cannot always accommodate them all. We therefore prioritise the ones that have specific historical links to the Abbey and are purely documentaries or are educational.

We welcome film production companies and commercial photographers between 18.00 and 21.00 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, subject to other commitments in the Abbey. Anyone interested in using the Abbey for filming or photography should contact us with details of the project (including a synopsis of the programme from film-makers), technical requirements and possible dates. Because of the heavy demand for these filming slots you should allow an adequate period of notice and we insist on a location recce prior to agreeing to a project. Fees will be discussed at this stage.

There are slightly different arrangements for filming in St Margaret’s Church and the Abbey Precincts although a facility fee still applies. Please contact us with details of the project to discuss availability.

Limited filming and photography for press purposes can be arranged as long as prior notice is given.
