Because the Abbey is a living church in an historic building there are very strict guidelines on commercial filming and photography.
Filming
Due to the number of filming requests we receive we cannot always accommodate them all. We therefore prioritise the ones that have specific historical links to the Abbey and are purely documentaries or are educational.
We welcome film production companies between 18.00 and 21.00 on Thursdays, or in some early morning slots, subject to other commitments in the Abbey.
Anyone interested in filming at the Abbey should contact us with details of the project (including a synopsis of the programme from film-makers), technical requirements, crew details and possible dates.
Because of the heavy demand for these filming slots you should allow an adequate period of notice, ideally six weeks, and we insist on a location recce prior to agreeing to a project. Fees will be discussed at this stage and a contract issued before filming commences.
There are slightly different arrangements for filming in St Margaret’s Church and the Abbey Precincts although a facility fee still applies. Please contact us with details of the project to discuss availability.
Photography
Photography for personal use is prohibited within the Abbey church, for further details please visit the FAQs.
Photography for professional purposes (including architectural press, educational publications and exhibitions) can be agreed at the discretion of the Press Office. Requests for access for professional photography should be made via email to the Press Office with a photography brief and detail of the locations/monuments of interest in the Abbey.
Fees will apply.
To license images for use in publication from the Abbey’s existing digital picture files contact the Press Office in the first instance.
News
Limited filming, photography and radio for press purposes can be arranged as long as prior notice is given. Requests for satellite truck access should be made through the Press Office.
