William of Sudbury

William of Sudbury was a monk at Westminster Abbey from 1373. He was a son of Henry, skinner of London, and his wife Margaret. His brother John was a monk at Battle Abbey and his sister Agnes was a minoress in the Abbey of St Clare in London. He was educated at Oxford and later helped compile the Inventory of the Vestry at the Abbey and was treasurer of Queen Eleanor of Castile's manors which she had earlier given to the abbey. William was probably the author of a treatise on the privilege of Sanctuary at Westminster. He died in 1415 and it is presumed he was buried at the Abbey.
