Vernon Faithfull Storr

The Reverend Vernon Faithfull Storr has a memorial stone in the north cloister of Westminster Abbey. He is buried at Matfield church in Kent where his uncle Charles was vicar. His grandfather was the Reverend Francis Storr and his father was Edward who married a daughter of the Reverend James Faithfull.

After education at Clifton and Oxford he became a lecturer and rector of several parishes and was also a Canon at Winchester cathedral 1907-16. At Westminster he was Canon from 1921 until his death and Rector of St Margaret's Westminster. He lived at 20 Dean's Yard which at that time was used as the rectory. He was offered two bishoprics but declined them both. He married his first cousin Katherine daughter of the Revd. Charles Storr and they had two daughters and two sons - Mary Katherine married John Rowe in 1928, Noel, a surgeon, married Violet Taynton in 1932 and Charles Anthony married Catherine Cole in 1942, all at the Abbey. The other daughter was Rachel.

The inscription, written by Canon Adam Fox, reads:

"Remember Vernon Faithfull Storr Canon of Westminster 1921-1940, Archdeacon 1931, Sub Dean 1936 Rector of St Margaret's 1936-40. Born 4 December 1869. Died 25 October 1940. Buried at Matfield. He helped many by his teaching and by his example"
