Thomas Prickard

Thomas Prickard was buried in the north cloister of Westminster Abbey on 23rd September 1795. He was Coroner and Clerk of the Markets for the City of Westminster from 1762-1792 and Abbey Auditor from 1786-1795. Prior to that he is said to have been secretary to the bishops of Chichester and of Rochester. His wife was Ann Seddon. Son Nathan attended Westminster School and went onto Oxford university, married Elizabeth Evans and died on 15th December 1808. Son John died before Thomas and they had a daughter Margaret.

The grave inscription reads:

Here lieth the body of Thomas Prickard, Esq. who died September 8 1795 in the 81 year of his age

The burial register says he was only 70. He lived in Dean's Yard in the Abbey precincts. He had a brother John and sisters Winifred and Barbara. He was grandfather of Thomas Prickard of Dderw, J.P. and great grandfather of the Reverend Thomas Prickard, rector of New Radnor. To his son he bequeathed lands in Rhayader in Wales.
