Longueville Family

In the north ambulatory of Westminster Abbey are the graves of William Longueville, his wife and son and Katherine wife of Sir Thomas Longueville. That to William and Elizabeth is in front of Admiral Holmes's monument, with a rubbed coat of arms at the top, and reads:

Here lyes Elizabeth Longueville wife to William Longueville Esqr. of ye Inner Temple London and third daughter to Sr Thomas Peyton of Knowlton in Kent Bart. [Baronet]. Dyed January 14 1715 aged 69. And here also lyes the above named William Longueville who was the onely son when he dyed to Sr Thomas Longueville late of Bradwell Abbey in the county of Bucks. knight, dyed March 22nd 1720 aged 82

The dates are given in Old Style dating on the stone which are now 1716 and 1721 respectively.

William was an eminent lawyer. Son Charles was Auditor to Queen Caroline and also a Member of Parliament and died unmarried. William's daughter Elizabeth married Charles Mompesson in the Abbey on 17th August 1703 and she is buried in Salisbury cathedral. The stone to Charles reads:

In the vault near this place lies interrr'd the body of Charles Longueville Esqr. son of Willim. Longueville Esqr. late of the Inner Temple. Obiit August 22 1750

The gravestone to Katherine, which she shares with her father, reads:

Sr Thomas Peyton of ye county of Kent, Baronett 11th of Febry 1683/4. Also here lyes Dame Katherine Longueville relict [widow] of Sr Thomas Longueville of Wolverton in the county of Bucks. Bart. and second daughter to Sr Thomas Peyton of Knowlton in Kent, Bart. dyed December the 30th 1715 aged 70.
