Alexander Walker

In the north transept of Westminster Abbey is the grave of Alexander Walker. The inscription reads:

"Alexander Walker of the island of Barbados, Esq. Obiit [died] 23rd of May 1757, aetat.[aged] 60"

He appears to have been a son of Alexander Walker, one of the judges on the island and his brother William was of St Peter's, Barbados. He had a daughter Newton who married John Walter. The coat of arms on the gravestone is now a little rubbed but shows quarterly "a cloud, in chief an eye" for Walker, and a pelican, with the motto "Per Varios casus" [come what may]. He presumably died in London and perhaps lived nearby.

A photo of the stone can be purchased from Westminster Abbey Library.
