John Hunter (d.1793)
He was called the “founder of scientific surgery” and was originally buried at St Martin in the Fields. His remains were moved here in 1859 and a brass was placed in the north aisle of the nave. In 1990 some of the missing sections were replaced. It shows his coat of arms in a canopy with symbols of the four Evangelists at each corner.
