Thomas Trotter in Concert: Celebrating 30 years as organist at St Margaret's Church
18th April 2013 at 6:30 pm
Members of the congregation of St Margaret's Church, Westminster Abbey will tell you that Thomas Trotter has probably played three million notes for them – without dropping one.
This celebratory concert will mark his 30 years as organist at St Margaret’s, where he has played under five directors of music, from Richard Hickox to the current post holder Aidan Oliver, and through the tenures of four rectors from The Very Reverend Trevor Beeson in the early 1980s to The Reverend Andrew Tremlett today.
The concert programme features pieces inspired by both Westminster and Thomas's own international career, by composers from Bach to Wagner and Coates to Vierne. The anniversary of Wagner's birth is marked with a performance of transcriptions by Lemare first played on St Margaret's organ to provide Londoners with their initial taste of Wagnerian opera.
Enhanced by a video projection from the organ console, the concert is followed by a wine reception in honour of Thomas, included in the ticket price, and proceeds will benefit the RCO Academy, encouraging a new generation of organists.
